Forgive My Soul

"I forgive you", said Roxy, replying to her brother, Danny's apology. Roxy lays back on the bed of her hospital room. Her brother is feeding her a bowl of hot soup while sitting on the chair at the side of Roxy's bed. She tries to forget about what had happened that caused the incident. The world around Roxy revolves as her thoughts flashes back to the painful night yesterday.

It was a Saturday night when Roxy and Danny were about to go to the cinema to watch a new movie, The Hunger Games. Danny was on the phone with his gorgeous girlfriend, Georgia. Roxy could tell that they were quarreling because she could almost hear Georgia yelling at Danny in the phone. Roxy waited on the couch, becoming more and more impatient, so she went in the kitchen and helped herself with some strawberry yogurt.

Roxy set down the yogurt as she brushed her straight, long, fiery red hair. Her light brown eyes fixated on her hair as she tried to untangle some parts of it. Then, she applied some powder and blusher on her cheeks and some cherry pink lip gloss on her small lips, adding a bit of colour to her pale white skin. She looked at her reflection in the mirror, wearing a pair of short jeans and a vintage blouse once worn by her mother. It reminded her to her parents who died in a car crash when Roxy was just five years old.

She wiped her eyes that got misty without her realization and went in the living room with a can of soda in her hand. Roxy was just about to have the first sip of the soda when Danny suddenly dragged her arms and pulled her out of the house, letting the soda can fall onto the ground. Roxy just looked at the can as soda dripped out of it, feeling her tongue dry of thirst.

Danny dragged Roxy into the backseat of his car, slamming the door shut, showing his anger. He started the car engine and drove in the direction of where Georgia's house was located. Roxy looked out the window, feeling a bit upset because for missing the first five minutes of the movie they were supposed to be watching at the moment. They finally reached Georgia's house but Danny didn't pull up at all. Instead, his foot stepped on the gas pedal harder, increasing the acceleration of the car. He drove pass her house, looking straight at the road in front of him. It was probably because of their fight earlier, Roxy presumed.

The car was moving too fast for Roxy's liking, making her feel dizzy and almost wanting to throw up. The traffic light at the next junction was still red but Danny just drove straight ahead. Roxy shut her eyes close after seeing headlights from the left, wondering will she feel the pain. Only when a honk was heard that she opened her eyes and sighed in relief to know that she was still alive in the car. Roxy felt like dying, not just because of the lightning speed of the car but also because of the stinky smell of some leftover tuna sandwich that girl found under her seat. Disgusting much.

After a few minutes later, they finally arrived at the cinema where Roxy quickly unlocked and opened the car door, stepping out with wobbly feet after the car ride that felt more like a rollercoaster ride. The girl then quickly went into Hall 2 after letting the ticket taker check her ticket stub, not wanting to miss more of the movie that she had been waiting to watch after she finished reading the novel version a few months ago. Roxy felt a little sad for she had already missed the first ten minutes of the movie. Putting that aside, she just watched the movie with excitement clearly plastered on her face.

About a while later, Roxy just then realized Danny's absence. She looked beside her and noticed that his seat was unoccupied. Her attention was then shifted to the racket she heard going on outside of the movie hall. The lady sat there thinking whether she should stay and continue watching the movie or go outside to check on her brother. Without anymore hesitations, Roxy decided on the latter and rose from her seat. She ran out the door and straight outside to see her brother getting beaten in his face by a guy she recognized was from their school.

Roxy saw the guy about to throw another punch to her big brother's face when he caught Roxy staring at him with a shocked expression. The guy pulled an evil smirk and punched Danny in the face before throwing him onto the ground and quickly ran out. The guy crossed the street as Roxy chased after him, a little far behind. Roxy was sure she was fast enough and she was positive in catching the guy who dared beat the shit out of her brother. She quickly crossed halfway across the street, locking her target on the guy when suddenly, a bright light was coming from the right side. She stood still in the middle of the road while looking at the bright light as her feet went numb. Her mind was blank and suddenly she felt something knocking her down like a bowling ball knocking down the pins. That was when everything went dark and her vision was blurry. She had a glimpse of Danny towering over her body, shouting something she can't head before her eyes fluttered shut.

Roxy's mind comes back to the present, tears slowly rolling down her pale cheeks. She hadn't noticed Georgia had come in the room until she felt arms wrapped around her tightly. Danny by her right side. Georgia by her left side. "I am very sorry, Roxy. If it wasn't for our quarreling over such petty things, all of this would never have happened", says Georgia as she wipes the injured girl's tears with her thumb. "I'm sorry you couldn't watch your Peeta Mellark bake breads", Danny jokes, trying to lighten up the sorrowful mood. His eyes were black and swollen and there were stitches near his lips but that didn't stop him from giving Roxy a gentle smile.

The three people are all laughing and exchanging some hilarious jokes to brighten up the situation. After an hour later, the nurse asks Danny and Georgia to leave as it was already late at night and they didn't want to disturb the other patients. Danny and Georgia both peck Roxy's cheeks and leave the room, letting it become quiet once again after wishing her a goodnight. Roxy gently puts down the box of chocolates Georgia had bought for her on the bedside table. Then, she turns off the small television and lays back on the bed beneath her. Roxy sheds her last tear as she shut her eyes, feeling her previous palpitating heart slow down. She knows death is greeting her and she surrenders willingly as her soul leaves her petite body. She has always wanted her death to be as peaceful as Rue's death like what she had read in the Hunger Games novel. Rest in peace, Roxy Jones.
